Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine was a destination we had been dreaming of for years. It was exciting to finally arrive at the park and begin our first trek in South America which would last 9 days and take us around the 'circuit'. Torres del Paine is a truly stunning park. Countless times we walked around a corner or over a hill top and were speechless. Despite nearly 9 days of constant rain we still had the time of our lives.
The first day we covered 12 miles hiking along Lago Pehoe with the towers as a backdrop.
The second day took us along Lago Grey which has giant chunks of Glacier Grey floating along the shores.
The third day and fourth day we hiked alongside Glacier Grey an arm of the southern Patagonia ice fields that stretches for nearly 300 miles north of the park.
Sira crossing one of the many ravines that run down to Glacier Grey.
On the way up John Garner pass with Glacier Grey in the background. The rain over the previous three days turned a typical 5 hour hike into a nine hour epic hike through the mud.
The top of John Garner pass. The highest elevation on the circuit at about 4,000 feet.
One of our favorite spots on the trek, Glacier Perros. We took a rest day here.
This was as close as we got to the towers - background on the right - as the rain forced us to leave the park.
This is the park exit. Th bridge over the Rio Paine is under about 4 feet of water. We made it out but they shut the road the next day.
Back in Puerto Natales the next day we were warmed by the first sun we had seen in more than a week.
