San Lorenzo

We were excited to go horseback riding in Patagonia and we finally heard of Luis Soto's ranch through some friends we met in Coyhaique. We headed back south to Cochrane where we organized the trip with Luis's son Francisco. One of the nice things about riding is that the horse carries your backpack, a relief after our long 10 days in Torres del Paine.

The Soto's have several thousand acres of land on the Chile/Argentina border. Luis's brother also works the land. He had just finished building a new barn when we arrived and was excited to have his picture taken.

From their ranch we hiked three hours to the climber base camp of San Lorenzo where Luis's family runs a refugio. San Lorenzo is a popular peak for climbers in Patagonia.

The valley where Luis and Juan have their ranch.

A typical Patagonia lamb asado. Luis is a great chef too!
